Your comment got me wondering about cancer in animals. I have not researched this thoroughly, but a quick skim indicates that cancer is not particularly common in wild animals, but it's pretty common in dogs. I cannot guess why, but one factor could be that wild animals often die before cancer might become a cause, where as our pampered pets tend to live longer, and we know that cancer risk increases with age. Obviously diet and environmental factors could be at play, too.
