Yes, it’s frustrating that the U.S. measurement system is different from most of the rest of the world. Here are the conversions for the important numbers in this story:

The now-debunked 8X8 rule (eight 8-ounce glasses of water) = 1.9 liters

Total recommended fluid intake (including from food):

Women: 11.4 cups (2.7 liters)

Men: 15.6 cups (3.7 liters)

Less 20% of the water we get from food, that means this much water from regular water and other beverages (on average, caveats, caveats):

Women: 9.1 cups (2.2 liters)

Men: 12.5 cups: (3.0 liters)
