Related aside: MIT philosopher Kieran Setiya, who has a painful chronic condition, told me in an interview last year that people with chronic pain and disabilities are often much happier than other people think they are. “People with physical disabilities do not rate their own well-being significantly lower than other people rate theirs,” Setiya writes in his book, "Life is Hard."
