Thanks for the helpful input. I agree that the advice any person hears has been scattered and confusing. From where I sit, talking to the epidemiologists, infectious-disease expert and other health experts and scientists, the advice they give is science-based and well-intentioned. On aerosols, yes, we had a lot of data going in, but it was not covid-specific, and every virus behaves differently, so the latest advice has solidified after further study. As for HEPA filters, the experts are touting them (I mentioned them in this story: How to Return to Work Safely), there just hasn’t been a ton of media coverage, perhaps in part because again, novel virus, but also it’s really complicated and kinda boring. But not to me: I’m actually working on a story about controlling the virus in your home, due to publish in the next 10 days or so.
