I'm sorry to hear about your mother. And yes, there are always outliers not captured by the statistics. And of course, none of the factors that can lower risk offer iron-clad protection. I think of it as Swiss Cheese. Each risk-lowering tactic is a layer with holes, and if you stack several layers, you plug a lot of holes. But nobody can plug all the possible holes. No single tactic eliminates risk (or any disease), but each tactic improves our odds.
