I think “we didn’t need it anyway” is the overarching message here. Whether painkillers negatively affect vaccine efficacy or not, or to whatever degree, nobody should take painkillers if they’re not needed. Our culture tends to view over-the-counter painkillers as helpful to benign, but there are side-effects that are serious enough to suggest we avoid them unless we really need them — for any reason.
