I remember a similar stage. I had a little red AM radio and a vanilla-colored, single wired ear bud (I think we called them earphones back then?) and I'd sometimes surreptitiously listen to Nighttime America with Bob Dearborn then music... until the station went off the air at midnight. My bedroom was a tiny converted den right off the kitchen, so there was no hiding, but I don't remember my parents ever checking on me.
