I love your idea about studying for a test in the same room it’ll be taken in, or studying in various places. Perhaps we could call it subconscious association? Years ago I took taekwondo (never got past white belt) and after weeks of learning difficult forms—a series of kicks and strikes and turns—and just when you thought you had it all memorized, the master had us all turn our starting position 90 degrees, facing a different wall. Nobody could remember their moves. We were subconsciously associating our moves with the things in the room, rather than truly internalizing them.
