I don't want to play doctor here, but if nobody else has recommended it, you might seek out an expert in mindfulness meditation or cognitive behavioral therapy. Both have been shown in research to help with chronic pain. Pain is a bugger, especially neuropathic pain (as you well know) but a lot has been learned in the past few years revealing that chronic pain becomes entrenched in the nervous system, like a memory, even after an injury or other cause may no longer exist. I wrote about that (link below), and while this won't tell you who to see about it, it might give you a better understanding of neuropathic pain and where the research is headed — some promising stuff.
