Hi Don: After finally digging into your concerns as fully as I should have sooner, the unsupported claim in the story you mention has been removed and a correction has been added to the bottom of the article. Elsewhere in the story, “best” has been replaced with “one of the best.” Based on all my reporting on the topic, what several experts have told me over the years, I do believe strongly that the story’s premise remains sound: On the whole, exercise is woefully under-appreciated and medications are over-prescribed for a range of mental health conditions and other ills, and exercise often is the best front-like treatment for many people. But I screwed up on the details in this case. I appreciate your polite persistence—a valuable service to readers. I’m always well-meaning, sometimes thick-headed, never perfect, and though I was misled in this case by a statement from the researchers, that’s no excuse for not completing my due diligence. I will post this same note in the comments thread you started in the article in question. Thank you.
