Hi David: No doubt each of the studies behind these conclusions show associations, not proving cause and effect. But there are numerous studies now pointing to the link between alcohol and cancer risk, and the good ones definitely take into account confounding factors. I went and found a couple, just as examples. I don't mean to suggest these two studies seal the deal by themselves, but I do believe there is solid evidence here and in other analyses linking moderate drinking to cancer risk. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-84181- and https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5912140/. I hope that's helpful. And I can't disagree with you about Pop Tarts. Sugar deserves the label. Or, as we often end up concluding: lots of things in moderation can be wise.
