As I noted in the story, REM sleep is when "memories are consolidated—effectively stored on your brain’s hard drive—while extraneous information is cleared from the mind and emotions are processed and settled. This stage is crucial for managing stress and anxiety." So if REM sleep disturbed, those things are not effectively accomplished, and your day is more apt to be filled with stress, anxiety, poor focus and indecision.
